Which Construction Dumpster Size Do You Need?

For most construction and remodel work in Atlanta, a 30 yard is the starting point. A 40 yard fits a gut renovation or a bigger build, and a 20 yard handles a one-room remodel. All three are 20 feet long and 8 feet wide, so the footprint on your site is the same; only the wall height changes.

20 Yard20 x 8 x 5 ft

2 tons included

Typical job: one-room remodel

30 Yard20 x 8 x 6 ft

3 tons included

Typical job: two-room remodel, roofing, construction

Heavy debris fills the weight limit before it fills the box. For concrete, brick or dirt, call first and we’ll quote the load. The dumpster size guide has more detail.

What Can Go in a Construction Dumpster?

Construction and remodel debris is what our roll-offs are built for. Mixed loads of concrete, dirt, brick, asphalt, roofing shingles and rock are fine, but call first so we can quote them. A few common job-site materials can’t go in at all.

Goes in

  • Construction and remodel debris
  • Concrete, brick, asphalt, rock
  • Dirt
  • Roofing shingles
  • Small demolition debris
  • Appliances without Freon

Stays out

  • Treated lumber and railroad ties
  • Wet paint, stain, solvents
  • Oil, fuel, antifreeze
  • Tires
  • Car, lead-acid and lithium batteries
  • Appliances with Freon (AC units, refrigerators)
  • Propane tanks, fluorescent tubes, hazardous waste

How Job-Site Dumpster Service Works

WG Waste driver delivering a roll-off dumpster

You call, we drop the container, and we swap or pick it up when you ask. Delivery runs Monday through Saturday in an all-day window, and nobody has to be on site to receive it.

1. Call with the job details

Give us the site address, the size you want and your start date.

2. Mark the spot

We need a flat, open area 20 feet long by 8 feet wide, a straight approach and clear room overhead. Move parked cars before delivery day.

3. Fill it to the top, not over

A driver can’t haul an overfilled container until the extra is taken off, and a return trip carries a fee.

4. Swap or pick up

Give us 24 hours notice for a swap-out, or ask for a dump-and-return. Pickups happen within 48 hours of your call.

5. Get your weight ticket

We share the weight ticket with you, so the tonnage on your bill is the tonnage from the scale.

Each rental includes delivery, 14 days on site, pickup and disposal. Need longer? Call to extend; extra days are billed per day.

Standing Accounts for Contractors

If you run more than one job, set up a commercial account once and stop starting from scratch. Accounts come with net terms, volume pricing and standing orders. When a general contractor or property owner asks for a certificate of insurance, we send it in a day or two.

Running a longer project that also makes everyday trash? We run front load bin service on daily, weekly or Sunday schedules.

Before the Container Arrives

A little prep keeps delivery on schedule.

Street placement needs a permit

If the container sits on a street or other public area, you pull the permit and pay the city. Check the rules with your local building or public works department.

Driveways and curbs

We don’t provide driveway boards, and we aren’t responsible for damage to a surface you pick for placement. Put down your own protection if the surface matters.

Blocked access costs a trip

If the driver can’t place or pick up the container, a trip charge applies.

Why Contractors Call WG Waste

We’re a family-owned Atlanta company, running roll-offs out of our yard on Ridge Ave SW since 2018. Our containers are clean and freshly painted, which matters when the dumpster sits in front of a client’s house for two weeks. WG Waste is licensed and insured.

What we don’t do: we rent containers, we don’t send crews to load them. If you need the debris carried out for you, a junk removal company is the better call.

Construction Dumpster Questions

What Atlanta contractors ask about job-site roll-offs

How fast can you get a dumpster to my job site?

Delivery runs Monday through Saturday. Call before noon and we’ll try for same-day delivery when the schedule allows; otherwise we confirm the soonest day we can hold for you. Delivery comes in an all-day window, and you don’t need to be on site as long as the spot is marked and clear.

Can you swap out a full dumpster?

Yes. Give us 24 hours notice and we’ll swap the full container for an empty one, or dump it and bring the same one back. A swap is priced like a new container, so ask us to quote it when you plan a long job. Call to schedule it.

What happens if the load is over the weight limit?

Each size includes a set tonnage: 2 tons for a 20 yard, 3 for a 30 and 4 for a 40. Weight over that is billed per ton, and we share the scale’s weight ticket with you. Concrete, brick and dirt get heavy fast, so call first on those loads and we’ll help you pick the right setup.

Do I need a permit for a construction dumpster?

Only if it sits on a street or other public area. In that case you pull the permit and pay the city, so check with your local building or public works department before delivery day.

Can you send a certificate of insurance before delivery?

Yes. Many general contractors and property owners require one before a container goes on site. Ask when you book and we send it in a day or two. Commercial accounts can also get net terms, volume pricing and standing orders.

Why WG Waste for construction dumpsters?

We share the scale’s weight ticket with every overweight load, so the tonnage you’re billed for is the tonnage the scale recorded. We’re family owned, licensed and insured, and running clean, freshly painted containers in Atlanta since 2018.
